The Act replaces the Community Greenspace Program. Its purpose is to provide a mechanism to encourage cities, counties, and private partners to protect the state's natural resources. The Act establishes a competitive grant and loan program for preservation of land or conservation easements on land. The Act establishes the Land Conservation Council, which reviews and approves grant and loan applications based on the environmental value and conservation benefit of each proposal. The Act also establishes the State Land Geographic Information System to identify areas with high environmental value and conservation benefits and to track land protected under the Act.
