The Act provides presumptive tables for child support based on the income shares model, taking into consideration both parents' gross income in establishing the child support obligation of the non-custodial parent, and instructs the trier of fact how to calculate each parent's gross income. It provides for deviations in the calculation of gross income, but only if the court finds the deviation will not harm the best interest of the child. The Act also limits when a parent may petition the court for modification in child support.
