The Act requires each local school system to conduct an annual fitness assessment program of students in elementary and secondary school during a course taught by a certified physical education teacher in which the student is enrolled. Beginning with the 2009–2010 school year this Act allows parents of students enrolled in public elementary or secondary school in the state to enroll their child in a public school in their school district other than the one the child has been assigned by the local board of education.
